First thing to know is what is male and female? The female one is the socket and the male one is the plug. Here in this case both are female, so what it does it it helps to connect two devices both with male output. And since it is just Two, it might be just for AUDIO (i.e. one is for Audio-R and the other is for Audio-L) or it could be for Video-Audio(mono) (i.e. One is for Video and the Other is for Audio with a mono output). Depending on the situation i can be used in either case. In short, it is used fo connecting two devices which have two male output plugs......
