What weather channel should I rely on?
I live in New York, and I'm always having trouble deciding what to wear because I don't know if the day will be warm or cold, because all the weather stations say something different. The hardest part is when I'm expecting rain in the forecast. It's happened a lot where I took an umbrella with me, but didn't have to use it. What should I do, and what do you rely on for your daily forecast?
Well first off: I live in NY as well; Long Island to be more specific. If you live in southeastern NY you should know that predicting weather for this region is particularly difficult due to our location with respect to latitude and the ocean, among many other things. If you wish to depend on the TV for a forecast, I would take an aggregate of different stations and draw conclusions from their similarities or differences e.g. if station A, says a high of 60, B 65 and C 70, go with 65 etc. I myself am studying meteorology in college so I make my own observations outside, as well as take a quick look at satellite and radar images daily. Since the average person who just wishes to know what to wear a particular morning won't go to such great lengths, you can also check the internet. Based on my experience I have found NOAA to be the most accurate. If you don't have the time nor patience for neither of the two options mentioned above, definitely first check the forecast on this website: http://www.weather.gov/
