What tips are there to save battery life on my HTC incredible?
Just bought an HTC incredible thru Verizon wireless and the battery is dying fast. One phone call dropped my battery like like a bar and the call was only 5 mins long. What are some battery life saving tips you can provide? I already have the task killer, have dimmed the screen, turned off WiFi and Bluetooth, have things like Facebook, email, weather bug, and others only updating when I click on them not in their own. Just wondering what else there is to do other than purchase an extended life battery. Thanks for ideas in advance.
First thing: stop using the task killer. Android has a very unique way of managing memory and processes. Many of the things you kill will get automatically restarted and idled by the system, which wastes even more battery cycles. Those things can do more harm than good, trust me.
One thing you can do to help get the most out of the battery is to do a basic calibration every week or two. Pick a day where you let the battery drain all the way down until the phone actually shuts off on its own. Do not power the phone up until you have it on a charger (doing so could kill the battery permanently). Then charge the battery overnight, or for an hour past the full charge indication. This can help refresh the battery's built in capacity measurement and can help get more out of it. There are also very sophisticated ways to calibrate a battery for prolonged use, but they require the phone to be rooted.
One thing you need to realize: smartphones use a lot of power, and some things that drain the battery can't always be controlled. For example, if the phone has to search harder for a signal from the tower, it uses more battery. I fixed this problem by having a couple of spare batteries and a stand-up charger for my Nexus One, so I don't run out.
