It's very expensive! How to make a cheap wind meter with USB interface???
If you go to microchip dot com they have app notes for connecting their $5 t0 $10 microcontrollers with built in usb to almost every thing, An anemometer (Wind Speed Meter) can be made by cutting 2 hollow balls in half and putting them 90 degrees apart on a revolving structure. You could by a cheap wheel at lowes and glue them on. glue a magnet near the axle on the wheel . glue a "reed switch" on the axle near the wheel. bring 2 wires from the reed switch to a resistor, 5V and gound at the microcontroller. this gives you the signal for he usb. Wind speed is proportional to switch closures per second. You will have to write USB handler software to use the data (not hard, you can find help on the web)
